Gas Furnaces
Let’s start with what it is, shall we?
A gas furnace is an air heating system that runs off of natural gas. This type of system is used in temperate countries when heating is required to warm the houses or buildings during winter.
The natural gas is ignited in the furnace and as the air becomes warmer, it is delivered throughout the home. It is required that all of the components work in perfect harmony, so the gas furnace can fully function.
What constitutes this air heating system?
-
A Thermostat is the communication center of your HVAC unit.
-
Draft Hood/Fan draws air towards the burners where it combusts, warming the air for redistribution around the house.
-
Burners are the metal tubes through which the natural gas travels; During the combustion of the gas in the burners, carbon dioxide, water vapor and heat will be released. It is advisable to install a carbon monoxide detector in your house to alert you of the presence of this gas in your house.
-
Heat Exchanger is made from steel sheet tubes that are heated by the burners with the objective of warming the air inside of the furnace.
-
The Blower Motor will exhaust the flue gases from the gas furnace to the outside of the building. At the same time, it will pre-purges the heat exchanger.
-
Air Filter is used to filter out contaminants from the air before being circulated to the space that is being heated.
-
A flue acts as an exhaust for gaseous by-products of combustion used to create heat.
